2023 New Jersey Skeet Championship article
The 2023 New Jersey Skeet Championship was held over the weekend of Friday, September 8th through Sunday, September 10th. This year our skeet championship was hosted by Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club. Due to severe lightning the doubles event was rescheduled to October 7th. New shooter Ed Jones shot a terrific 98 to win the Doubles Championship. Congratulations Ed!! Jim Seiler’s 97 secured A1, Matt Pascale’s 92 iced B1, Joe Madlinger shot an 89 to take C1 and Tom Surman’s 77 took D1.

On Saturday, September 9th we held the 12 gauge event. Massachusetts shooter Mike Estepp took the Open 12ga Championship with a 99. Nice shooting Mike! New Hampshire shooter David Miles took AA1 and Ed Jones won A1. Mason Palidar’s 98 earned him the New Jersey State 12 gauge Championship after winning a shoot-off with Ed Jones. Joe Madlinger’s 96 secured C1, Eddie Amaty broke a hard 97 to win D1 and West Point shooter Ashley Dardiner took E1 with an 84.

On Saturday afternoon we had the 20 gauge event and both David Miles and Ben Galioto posted 100 straights. After 5 stations David Miles claimed the 20 gauge Open Championship and Ben Galioto claimed the NJ State 20 gauge title. Robert Vrablik shot an amazing 99 to claim A1 and Neil Alexander dominated B1 with a strong 98. Dick Lukasik’s 95 secured C1 and Peconic River shooter Ralph Novotny broke an impressive 93 to win D1.

On Saturday evening our president Ed Amaty made sure we were treated to an amazing dinner. I would like to acknowledge Donna, Ann Marie and Kevin for helping with all the preparation as well as all the post dinner cleanup. Your help is greatly appreciated.

On Sunday morning we hosted the 28 gauge championship. Both David Miles and Mike Estepp broke 99’s. David and Mike made their way to the shoot-off field, and after 7 stations David Miles claimed the 28 gauge Open Championship. Mike Estepp secured AA1 and James Seiler took A1 with a 97, and also earned the New Jersey 28 gauge State Title. Joe Madlinger won B1 with a 94, Neil Alexander took C1 with a 92 and Ralph Novotny dropped the hammer to secure D1 with his own 92!

On Sunday afternoon we shot the 410 event, and both David Miles and Mike Estepp shot 97’s. After a visit to the shoot-off field and 6 stations later David Miles won the 410 Open Championship and Mike Estepp won A1. Jim Seiler, with a 92 won the New Jersey 410 State Title after a shoot-off with Mason Palidar. Massachusetts shooter Jack Makiver took AA1 with a 93. Chris Khalaf who shot well all weekend took B1 with an 88, Jeffrey Smyth won C1 with an 82 and “you know who” Ralph Novotny won D1 with an 87!

The HOA championship came down to David Miles and Mike Estepp. Both guys had an outstanding weekend, shooting 394’s. Like two gladiators they made their way to the shoot-off field and after 6 stations David Miles won the HOA Open Championship, and Mike Estepp won AA1. Ben Galioto is the 2023 New Jersey State HOA champion with a 383. Connecticut shooter Lisette Grunwell-Lacey, who had a strong 2023 skeet season, broke a 385 to win A1, Mason Palidar secured B1 with a 382, Joe Madlinger’s 368 iced C1, Ralph Novotny won D1 with a 360 and Ashley Gardner won E1 with a 315.

I would like to thank our President-Ed Amaty, Chief Referee-Mason Palidar, Treasurer-Howie Mann, VP Al DiGangi and Secretary Greg Khalaf for all their hard work in making this shoot possible.
