| Abernathy Takes It All, Amaty Hits Them All By Meryl Boyd What a day in the life of a skeet shooter! Central Jersey held its 4th annual skeet championship on June 23 and what a day it was for some. There were some new faces. There were some old faces. There were new milestones met and there was a new skeet champion crowned. The shoots format was the same as last years 200 / 12 gauge targets. New faces such as Neil and Ben Aokin and Tom Giblon were introduced to the formal game of skeet. Things got under way at 8:30 am when the first rotation hit the field. When all 25 shooters were finished there was a tie for the lead. John Urciuoli took the AM session from Tom Abernathy both shooting a 97. John also won a Coors Light cooler donated by Shore Point Distributors. Things were tight going into the 2nd 100 with the two 97s and Andrew Harmans 96. After a pit stop to visit Sue Nichols at the BBQ, the squads hit the field again for the 2nd 100 of the day. Tom went out and came so close to perfection shooting a 99 and taking the lead on top of the score board with a 196. Closest behind Tom was Andrew with a 193 on the day. I did mention milestones at the beginning of the article and it was about to happen by Ed Amaty. While everyone was standing back watching, Ed found his grove on the field. Perfection was met. Running straight for the first time, Ed made this a day to remember. What a great way to end the tournament. Ed did take the PM title. He also took home a Molson patio umbrella. When all the scores were added up Tom Abernathys great shooting won him the championship belt buckle. Ed and his milestone was crowned new club runner-up. More fun for all. Tom Peretore won the C, D, E class silver platter. Ed Whitman won the runner-up plaque. Teddy Amaty outlasted all in the lucky number shooters winning a Molson folding chair. Many were awarded shells donated by Brick Armory when successfully hitting a flash bird. Coins were handed out to the top five in all the classes. Class winners were, Ed Amaty B class, Ed Whitman C class, Dave Evans D class and Marvin Bradford E class. Jr. Champ was Teddy Amaty and Ladies Champ was Meryl Boyd who both brought home Brooklyn Brewery glasses. With the help of so many, thanks to: Brick Armory, CJ and our Board members, Shore Point Distributors, and Sue Nichols, and many more, the 4th Club Championship was another success!
